Hi my name is Jacob, I’ve been a Dungeon Master playing Dungeons and Dragons.. forever and for a very long time I wanted to put together all of my universes and story telling into a single cohesive multiverse.
My multiverse is best compared to an engine that spits out realms and universes. Cosmic events, that I’ll describe later, are nick named The Mix which in it’s glory creates all the landscape of all realms. These landscapes are populated by gods seeking to claim this war torn land for themselves through whatever means. The land created is infinite in size and in my games I simply consider this the beginning to all things, not something that anyone needs to know, or truly knows for certain, but something that simply has happened.
The Mix
The Mix is a faultless collision. Rather than planes of water, air, fire, and earth in my multiverse, these are simply larger than life elementals; so large and cumbersome that they can no longer move without affecting millions of universes. They are so large that they are constantly colliding and impacting one and other, and in these impacts are how universes are made, this area where universes can exist is known as The Opportunity Zone.
The remains of the impacts are smaller forms of their massive origination. The elemental magic churns until reaching a state of equilibrium. This process can look different depending on the makeup of the universe.
Accompanied to this section, is a poorly illustrated diagram.

To simplify, each plane of elements exist in between time and space, occupying an infinitely large space, the space in-between them and the void is where all life takes place. In my world The experience of the Void can be described as a viscous and acidic black liquid that leaves no trace, when you are in it it gives the sensation of drowning and burning but as you leave it there is no visual impact on the physical form.
The Opportunity Zone
In the space between the planes of elements lie fragments of collisions, the blends of magical energy from these gargantuan elemental sources create shards that make up all of the known universes ever told, but the multiverse is not the only thing to exist at scale in The Opportunity Zone. Creatures, known as Greater Gods, lurk in The Opportunity Zone looking for… well.. opportunity. As Greater Gods consume realms, for selfish or selfless reasons, they grow in size and power as they compete in an eat or be eaten world. There are many challenges a Greater God may face when attempting to consume a realm, but to not consume is to inevitably be consumed.
Greater Gods
Greater Gods are larger than your typical realm, and seek to consume realms to increase their power. Greater Gods watch the collisions in The Opportunity Zone and redirect the shards to their sections of The Opportunity Zone. Greater Gods will very rarely attempt to overpower the realm, The realm itself being a large and unstable elemental poses a threat, instead opt to nurture life. By nurturing life they can sway the elemental balance while avoiding stirring the giant creatures, and open easy pathways to their own demise. This power rat-race is a symbolic end to someone reaching for power beyond godhood.
Godhood
On an empty plane the risen elementals of earth, wind, fire, and water have the ability to completely bend the reality of the universe, because the universe and them are the same being. Godhood is a phenomena when that happens to a person. As populations grow and life and the world entertwine, if more than half of all of that exists in the universe believes the person to be a god, it simply happens. If someone were to use this power and build themselves a form out of the universe, they would ascend to being a Greater God.
Alright Cool, but Why?
The reason I build all of my DND campaigns in this fashion is because it actually allows me to level up my characters pretty quickly, without them outscaling the power level of the universe.
As your characters grow in power, so must their enemies. So your characters are going to need a mixture of boars, bandits, cultists, goblins, etc. that’ll help them peeter up their levels to at least 6-7, but once they start hitting level 9-12 they are going to be able to move from realm to realm, and you are going to need a realm level threat already in the game otherwise all of the work they have put in protecting them realm is actually going to work, and they can leave their realm on a whim which tends to derail things quickly.
I’ve already got it baked in, there’s already a few Greater Gods looking to fish your whole universe into it’s whim, and all of life is a part of it’s sick twisted game. You need a fill in? Luckily all of the land they are standing on can be manifested into avenger level threats, as the greater god slowly widdles down the universes natural defenses.
But most importantly, I’ve put an in game incentive to being the most charismatic character, you may literally become a god. This is my resource on my world knowledge in DnD, if you would like to see how to incorporate your world in my universe this is where I would start.
